Thanksgiving for the birth of a child

The Birth of a Child is a moment of great joy in the life of a family for which many wish to give thanks to God.

What is a Thanksgiving?

The Service of Thanksgiving provides an opportunity to offer thanks to God for a new child. There are no godparents, but family and friends offer their support and encouragement, prayers and love for the child as together they grow and journey through life.

It might feel more comfortable for families who would prefer to delay Baptism until the child can decide for themselves or feel unable to make the Baptismal promises at this time.

Thanksgivings can often be followed by a Baptism at a later date.

When do Thanksgivings happen?

At St Andrew’s, Thanksgivings will take place on the fourth Sunday of the month as part of the informal service at 10.45am

At St Bridget’s, Thanksgivings will take place on the second or third Sunday of the month during the 9.15am service.

What happens next?

Please telephone our Administrator at the Benefice Office 01275 463469 (preferably during office hours Tuesday, Thursday, Friday between 9.30am–12.30am) who will then arrange for a member of the Ministry Team to contact you and meet with you to discuss the Thanksgiving service and all that’s involved.

Is there a cost for a Service of Thanksgiving?

No! There is no cost for a Thanksgiving - it is God’s gift of his love and presence with us.
