About the Benefice

'Benefice' is the term used for a group of parishes that share a minister. The Benefice of Backwell with Chelvey and Brockley is a partnership of the two parishes of Backwell parish and Chelvey and Brockley parish. Backwell, Chelvey, and Brockley are a group of villages on or close to the A370 main road between Bristol and Weston-super-mare in North Somerset.

The parish of Backwell holds its services and other events in St Andrew's church, Backwell.

The parish of Chelvey and Brockley holds its services in St Bridget's church in Chelvey.

The church of St Nicholas, Brockley is officially closed for regular worship and is administered by the Churches Conservation Trust.

Andy's is a congreagation that meets once a month in the 6th Form Centre in Backwell School, offering a more contemporary style of worship. It is a joint initiative between St Andrew's Church, Backwell and Trendlewood Church, Nailsea.

Details of services across the Benefice can be found here, and our latest newsheet and calendar of activiteis and events can be accessed via the links to the left.

Further details of each of the church buildings can be found here.

The benefice has a broader partnership with other nearby Church of England parishes in the Coombes Local Ministry Group. We also work with other local Christians through Churches Together in and around Backwell.

The Benefice is part of the Deanery of Portishead, which itself is part of the Diocese of Bath and Wells of the Church of England.
